As surprising as it may at first seem – Geneva is a farming canton. Some 11,500 hectares of usable agricultural land add up to 42% of the whole canton. That’s more than the Swiss average of 37%.
The rich diversity of things produced in Geneva becomes immediately apparent as one explores the countryside. Along with livestock – cattle, goats, sheep and more – bred in Geneva, a large variety of vegetables, fruit and flowers are grown, the fields yield an abundance of grain and other crops, and there are vineyards as well.
